Organization and Duties

The General Directorate of Local Authorities was established within the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization pursuant to the Presidential Decree No. 1 on the Presidential Organization, published in the Official Gazette dated 10.07.2018 and numbered 30474..

The duties and powers of the General Directorate of Local Authorities are stated in Article 100 of the Presidential Decree No.1 as follows;

To ensure performing, following up, finalizing and improving ofthe duties and services given by the legislation regarding the works and procedures of local authorities,

To observe that local administration investments and services are carried out in accordance with development plans and annual programs,

To conduct research, collecting, evaluating and publishing statistical information in order to improve local authorities,

To plan the in-service training of local authorities personnel and to follow its implementation,

To determine the organization, vehicle and staff standards of local authorities,

To perform other duties assigned by the Minister.
